NOCO Boost GB70 Jump Starter Review

When your vehicle's battery dies and you're stuck in a pinch, a reliable jump starter can be a lifesaver. The NOCO Boost GB70 promises to do just that, offering a powerful and portable solution for quickly jump-starting a variety of vehicles, from cars to motorcycles, trucks, and even watercraft.

With its impressive peak current rating and a range of safety features, this jump starter stands out in the crowded market of emergency power devices. But is it truly as good as it sounds? Let’s take a deeper look at what the NOCO Boost GB70 has to offer.

Detailed Specs & Features

At the heart of the NOCO Boost GB70 lies a lithium-ion battery that delivers a potent 2000 amps of peak current. This makes it more than capable of jump-starting most vehicles with gas engines up to 8.0 liters or diesel engines up to 6.0 liters. According to its specifications, the unit can manage 40 to 45 jump starts on a single charge, which is more than enough to tackle multiple emergencies or serve as a reliable backup in case your battery keeps dying. It’s also worth noting that the unit is designed to handle a wide range of temperatures, functioning efficiently in environments between -4 °F and 122 °F—ideal for those who live in extreme climates.

In terms of size, the NOCO Boost GB70 is a bit bulkier than some of its competitors, weighing in at 4.18 lbs and measuring just under 6 inches tall. While it’s not exactly the most compact device, it’s still portable and easy to store in a glove compartment or trunk. The device comes with a charging cable, a cigarette lighter socket adapter, and a carrying case, so it’s ready for action out of the box. It also features an integrated LED flashlight with an impressive 400 lumens brightness, which can be especially helpful during nighttime emergencies.

Design & Build

The NOCO Boost GB70 is housed in an IP65-rated enclosure, meaning it’s dustproof and water-resistant. This level of protection is a significant advantage for those who might use the jump starter in harsh outdoor conditions or near water. Despite its rugged design, it maintains a relatively lightweight form, considering its power output. The device feels sturdy and well-made, and the material choices seem to reflect its durability and ability to withstand drops and impacts. The included physical buttons and switches make for a user-friendly interface, even when you’re under pressure.

Performance

On paper, the Boost GB70 is a powerhouse. With its 2000-amp starting current and 2000-amp peak current, this jump starter can handle most vehicles you throw at it. It’s designed to work with engines up to 8.0 liters for gas-powered vehicles and 6.0 liters for diesel engines. This makes it a solid option for anyone who needs a versatile jump starter for a variety of applications, whether that’s for a small motorcycle or a large truck. Additionally, the 12V battery ensures reliable performance even in challenging conditions.

In terms of charging, the device’s 108-minute charging time seems fairly reasonable, though it’s not the fastest option out there. Still, when you need a quick boost, this should be more than sufficient. Furthermore, its USB output (5V, 2.1 Amps) allows you to use it as a power bank, so you can recharge your devices in a pinch—handy if you're also on the road and need some extra juice for your phone or tablet.

Extra Features

One of the standout features of the NOCO Boost GB70 is its extensive safety mechanisms. It’s equipped with a range of protections, including reverse polarity protection, short-circuit protection, and over-load protection. These features not only make it safer to use but also reduce the risk of damaging the device or your vehicle’s electrical system. The unit also has automatic shutoff to prevent overcharging, making it a low-maintenance product overall.
